Cable TV—FAQ Digital Audio or Video IssuesSee the answers to our FAQs below or download our Digital Service Call Troubleshooting Guide (pdf). I have low or no audio: There are two (2) volume controls—one on the set-top box and one on the TV. If the TV volume control level is down, no matter how high you turn up the volume on the set-top, you won't hear anything. Likewise, if the set-top box volume is down, it doesnt matter how high you set the TV volume, you wont hear anything. You should adjust your TV set volume control about halfway up and leave it alone. Then, adjust the volume through the set-top box.
I have no audio:
Try tuning up one channel, and then tuning back down one channel to restore audio.
I have no reception with my set-top box: Check to be sure that your TV is tuned to Channel 3 (you may need to input 03). If all channels are still out, reset your box by turning it off or by unplugging the power cord. Restore power and toggle through the channels to check reception. My set-top box remote control does not work: Check the batteries in the remote and make sure your TV is on Channel 3 (you may need to input 03). Reset the box by turning it off or by unplugging it from the power. Restore power and toggle through the channels to check reception. I have no local channel reception with my set-top box:
Until we can make changes to your buildings distribution system, the cable to your set-top box from the wall plate needs to be split. Using a two-way splitter, feed the cable from the wall to both Antenna and RF inputs on your set-top box. Splitter and jumper cables are available from The Capitol Connection. When you want to watch local channels, turn off the set-top box and select the local channels directly from the channel selector on your TV.
I am not sure if our TV is digital cable ready:
Perform a Google search on the brand and model number and check the spec sheet. Another option is to look for a computer/PC slot on the back of the TV. If there is one, the TV is (or should be) digital-ready.
I have no reception with my digital-ready TV: Digital-ready TVs differ by manufacturer and model. First, make sure you are tuning the digital channels, not analog. You may need to perform a digital/cable (CATV/D) channel auto search. See your TVs instruction manual for performing a channel auto-search. Make sure the TV searches for digital channels. Some TVs are mode-specific, meaning they either search analog or digital. Other TVs search for both types at the same time. In either case, make sure your set searches for the digital channels. Second, make sure that your TV can receive both ATSC digital and QAM digital signals. If you are not sure, call The Capitol Connection and a Customer Service Representative will be glad to assist you.
I am having a problem using my PC with computer card to receive TV signals: If your computer is hooked to the set-top box, make sure the tuner card is on Channel 3. Some PC cards, while designated NTSC/ATSC with QAM capability, require a software upgrade. Call The Capitol Connection for help using a PC card to receive TV signals. I have no reception with my head-end system: Some buildings have a centralized system that relies on what we call a head-end to receive the cable signal. Your IT administrator or office manager may need to reset the box(es) in the head-end that tune the channel(s) with the problem. Reset the boxes by turning them off or by unplugging them and then plugging them back in and/or turning them on again. Call The Capitol Connection for assistance with resetting head-end systems. Will I lose the local channels in February 2009? On February 17, 2009, all local channel television stations will cease their analog broadcasts. The Capitol Connections Kaon HDTV set-top boxes will convert the local stations digital signals to a format that can be displayed by older analog televisions. Please ask everyone who receives our TV programming to make sure they can tune in the local stations' digital broadcasts via their set-top box or via a digital television set. If you are receiving the digital signals through the TV tuner, you will get weather information on Channels on 4-2, 7-2, and 9-2.
